Introducing the 2013 Ashton Publications Pattern Challenge

I have been keeping pretty quiet about this for as long as I can stand it, but it’s finally time to let the cat out of the bag … I’ve been working on a Pattern Challenge! I want this to be fun so I’m keeping it simple. Here’s the rules:

• You must purchase an Official Challenge Pattern from one of the four participating quilt stores.

• Make a quilt — anything you want — with some recognizable portion of the pattern somewhere in your quilt. You can use the entire pattern or just part of it. It can be any size or shape you wish as long as it is smaller than 60″ x 80″.

• Mail-in a photo of your Challenge Quilt along with a $5 entry fee per quilt (you can make one or two quilts) and the Official Entry Forms (included in the pattern) by November 15, 2012.

• Drop off your quilt(s) at any of the four participating quilt stores by December 15, 2012. Or you can mail it in if you do not live near OKC.

• All of the quilts will hang in a special display at the 2013 Oklahoma Winter Quilt Show, January 10-12, 2013. We will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons as well as a Viewers Choice and an Honorable Mention. The winners will receive prizes donated by the four participating quilt shops.

This years pattern is Oklahoma’s White-Tailed Deer. My hope is that this will get your creative juices flowing and that we will all have a blast. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!!

The 2012 Winter Quilt Show is Over — But Plan on Coming Out Next Year!

The Winter Quilt Show was a roaring success! The weather was crisp but sunny, the crowd was large and enthusiastic. And the vendors were all happy and doing well. They had a “no photography” rule so I don’t have any photos to share of the quilts on display but I can say they were magnificent! Charlotte Hickman had two gorgeous quilts entered. But the quilt that won best of show was truly a show stopper. It was hand appliqued and hand quilted. All I can say is you should have been there. If you missed it, mark your calendars right now for the 2013 Winter Quilt Show which will be held January 10, 11, & 12, 2013. They’ve already booked Kathy Kansier and Dianne Hire — see you there!

A Christmas Quilt

I made this Christmas Bunny several years ago for a block swap, and then I got busy and didn’t make it to the swap. He’s lived in my UFO drawer ever since. So I decided to dig him out and finish it up for the holidays…

The bunny and the paw print blocks are both in the book Bunnies & More.

Bunny Boots

This little quilt is not yet quilted but I couldn’t wait to show it off. The applique is from my book “Bunnies and More” and the boots are from my friend Susan Master’s pattern “All American Boots” available at Sooner Quilts or Nancy’s Trunk. We got together and planned this quilt years ago and even made all the boot blocks, but then it ended up in a bag in a drawer. I’m glad it’s finally put together.

The windmill blocks in the corners have 3-dimensional prairie points. I plan to add buttons to the centers of these blocks after it is quilted. Those blocks are also in the “Bunnies and More” book. They are part of the Angora Rabbits quilt.

This is my Singer 328k. I really like the way this machine zig-zags. It sews beautifully.
