My Louis Rastetter Folding Chair

Rug & BookThis is my newest project — it is a Louis Rastetter and Sons wooden folding chair. I picked this up at a flea market for $4. It was stuck and wouldn’t fold up and it was covered in a nasty black paint that someone had applied with a paintbrush.

I really like this chair. It seems to be very well made and it folds up nice and flat for storage.

I hand sanded all the paint off, removed the seat, and oiled the folding mechanism so that it moves easily. I had decided that I was going to recover the seat with a wool penny rug similar to the other’s that I’ve posted in the past. That was when I discovered this nifty tag on the bottom of the seat.

Here’s a closeup photo of the tag.

I’ve got the seat off in the top photo — it is pretty rough. I’m going to make a new cover for it and I’ve decided to use the free valentine pattern that I have on my website. The free pattern can be found under the description of the Paper Cut Valentines book. I adjusted the size some to fit the seat and I added some extra circles.

I’ll post a follow-up photo once I have it finished. I hope it turns out as nice as it looks inside my head right now!
